Xing Yi, known as Form-Intention Fist, is another internal art that emphasizes aggressive, linear movements with explosive power. It traces its lineage to Yue Fei and his excellence in spear fighting techniques. It is said Ji Longfeng found Yue Fei’s manuals and re-created the art and passed it to Cao Jiwu, where the art is split into two branches. One branch, Xin Yi Liu He Quan, came down from Ma Xueli and while widely practiced, is said to be mostly pure and not have undergone many changes over the generations. The other major branch, Hebei Xing Yi Quan, passed through Dai Longbang and was popularized by such high profile martial artists like Guo Yunshen and Li Cunyi.
Xing Yi is characterized by direct footwork and direct, aggressive attacks. It uses one’s body as a single unit and uses ones intent to focus ones internal energy into the explosive power of the movements.
Sifu Hart begins with the basic five elements and each representative fist. From there one can learn the 12 animals and eventually grasp the 8 character skills. Eventually through the levels of Ming, An, and Hua Jings or expressions of energy one can gain a true understanding of Neijia arts.
